Frequently Asked Questions

Hudson Water Lab works with pool operators, facility managers, and property owners throughout New Jersey. Below are answers to common questions about recreational water testing, sample collection, and compliance.

Testing & Services

What types of water do you test?

We provide NJDEP-certified microbiological testing for recreational bathing waters, including swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, cold plunge, and other bodies of water for aquatic facilities.

What microbiological tests are typically required?

Depending on the facility type, required testing may include:

  • Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC)

  • Total Coliform & E. coli

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa (commonly required for spas / hot tubs)

Testing requirements are determined by NJDEP regulations and facility characteristics.

Are your test methods NJDEP-approved?

Yes. Hudson Water Lab operates under NJDEP NPW01 certification and performs testing using approved methodologies in accordance with applicable requirements.

Sample Collection & Reporting

Do you collect water samples, or do we deliver them?

Both options are available.

Some facilities choose on-site sample collection by our trained personnel, while others deliver samples directly to the laboratory. We work with each client to determine the most appropriate approach.

How often are samples collected?

Many recreational facilities follow a routine weekly testing schedule.

Are chlorine and pH measured during collection?

When samples are collected on site, free chlorine and pH are measured at the time of collection and reported alongside microbiological results, as required.

How are results reported?

Results are reported clearly and promptly to support regulatory compliance and operational decision-making.

What is the typical turnaround time?

Turnaround time depends on the test performed and incubation requirements, and our reporting timelines follow regulatory standards and approved methods.

Compliance & Certification

Can you help us understand NJDEP testing requirements?

Yes. While Hudson Water Lab does not serve as a regulatory authority, we can assist facilities in understanding testing requirements and supporting compliance efforts.
